The Jewish Genealogical Society of Montreal is one of more than 80 Jewish genealogical societies worldwide. Although relatively small, with fewer than 100 members, the JGS of Montreal has made significant contributions to the study of Jewish family history for both its members and genealogists all over the world with a Montreal connection. The Society has ongoing programs to digitize and index Canadian naturalization records, Quebec civil records (the Drouin Collection), Jewish cemeteries in Quebec, and Yiddish obituaries.
Although much of our work is done by volunteers, there are costs associated with some of these projects. Activities of the JGS of Montreal are funded through membership dues, proceeds from the Drouin project, donations, and the Amazon Associates Program. Our shopping programs are a new way to fund our projects. The programs allow the JGS-Montreal to receive referral fees from certain merchants if the purchases are made through our web site.
